Youth Mentoring: RISE Program
WestCare Illinois participates in the City of Chicago Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) to Project RISE (Restoring Individuals through Supportive Environments) program, part of the Prevention and Intervention portfolio of the Youth Division within the DFSS. Project RISE is a strength-based approach to intervention focused on youth 14-18 at high risk of violent involvement and recidivism. This 6-month diversion program provides the participants with intensive group counseling, mentoring and skill-building opportunities.
The Civic Engagement Curriculum used for RISE is designed to empower young men with a deeper sense of responsibility for themselves and the community. It focuses on civic engagement and restorative justice. Youth are paid for their time and create a community service-learning project at the end of the curriculum.
